With just one game to go before the Christmas break, St. Clears manager Craig Weston is hopeful his team can maintain their form in order to go into the New Year unbeaten in the league.

With 10 wins and two draws from 12 games, the Saints have only dropped four points all season and following their impressive 9-1 win over Merlins Bridge seconds over the weekend, Weston is urging them to keep marching on.

Eddie Wiggins was on fire for the home side against the Wizards as he banged in four goals as St Clears went into the break 4-1 up. Ian Derbyshire, making his first start for the first team, also got in on the action with a fine header, with the other goals scored by Nick Squire, Steve Thomas and Jamie Goodyear.

Merlins Bridge's goal came from the spot as Christian Issacs transgressed in the box to give away a penalty. The centre back, never one to hide his disappointment at committing errors, was visibly distraught at this, yet recovered enough to produce a string of tackles to thwart any other attempts at goal.

Confidence is in no short supply on the pitch at the West Carmarthenshire club and it appears that extends off the pitch, too, with the players baring all for a fundraising calendar that Weston says is full of 'artful' shots.

Weston believes this attempt at raising some much-needed capital is helping his team produce the goods on Saturdays.

"There's no doubt it's helping. It took a lot of guts for the boys to do what they have done and so far sales have gone as well as our results.

"We had 250 printed and they are fast running out, so if anyone wants to buy one, they better get in there quick." The calendars can be found in shops within the village.

Narberth may have lost 3-2 at home to Pennar Robins in their first division clash, but Steve Jones says the result is not as bad as it seems.

With a host of withdrawals prior to kick-off, the Bluebirds had no option but to bring Jones out of retirement to go on the bench alongside fellow veteran Nigel Williams and his son, Ryan.

The home side may have gone on to the field with a depleted team on paper, yet in reality the players that took on the Robins showed the club is full of depth; producing enough opportunities to have snuck a win against the third-placed side.

"It's a disappointing result obviously," said Jones, "but the team put in a wonderful effort and we gave Pennar a great game.

"In the second half we did everything but score and the boys can hold their heads up high as they did the club proud."

The Robins went into the break 2-0 up, but a neat pass by Luke Squires allowed Ashley Williams to reduce the deficit. Narberth then created numerous chances, but failed to convert them, before the visitors pulled clear once more.

Ryan Williams came on to score with a fine header to make it 3-2 with five minutes to go, but despite creating more chances, none could find the back of the net.

Tenby moved out of the bottom three after a 3-1 home win over Haverfordwest County. The visitors made the better start and went 1-0 up early in the first half, but a Darryl Mansbridge goal straight from the kick-off ensured the Seasiders went into the break at 1-1.

Dean Rossiter, back to his influential best in midfield following a stint in goal, secured a penalty after he was felled in the box ,which Jordan Richards converted, and he secured the points with a well-taken goal as full-time loomed.

Manager Mike Lewis was a relieved man after the result.

"We needed the points to get out of the bottom three, but it was nip and tuck at one stage. The turning point came when their 'keeper was sent off and JJ (Richards) scored from the spot. It was a good result for us."

Ian Sefton made a welcome return to Carew's ranks and showed that having five weeks out of the game has done nothing for his confidence as he scored one of his side's two goals when they drew at Goodwick seconds.

The striker was on fine form alongside Brian Hall, who grabbed the first to ensure the teams were tied 1-1 at the break.

The home side responded with a goal early in the second, but Sefie's strike later on made certain his team had a share of the spoils.

"It's disappointing to get a draw," said manager Barry Evans. "But it's never easy up there. They had two shots at goal all afternoon and scored. We didn't seem up for it as much for some reason, but we hope to have a good run after Christmas."

Saundersfoot's good run of scoring goals came to an end on Saturday as they could only draw 0-0 at Prendergast Villa.

Having scored 17 goals in their two previous games, the Sports would have wanted more on Villa's narrow pitch, but none came, proving if proof was ever needed, that football is indeed a funny old game.

A pitch resembling a quagmire meant Kilgetty's home game against Herbrandston was postponed, while the same fate befell Pendine in their clash against Broad Haven.

Narberth seconds took the field at Clarbeston Road and came away with a hard fought 3-2 victory. The win means that Adrian Howells's team are now in fifth position and within touching distance of the promotion pack, although the manager said you wouldn't have believed they are playing so well after this performance.

"A win is a win I guess and you have to take the points, but we didn't play with our usual purpose for some reason and we were slightly off the pace, but we're playing well at the moment and to be in fifth is great."

With a 2-0 half-time lead you wouldn't have known that Narberth were below par as Paul Phillips and Callum O'Connell scored the goals.

The home side responded with two quick goals after the interval, yet a fine strike from 22 yards by John Jolly meant the Bluebirds went back with the points.

Manorbier United and Tenby were involved in an epic struggle at the Clicketts, with the visitors going home the winners following a 5-3 win.

Sam Christopher scored twice for the home side, with Callum Greer nipping in for the other, but two goals by Sam Reeve and one apiece for James Hall, Ben Hall and Neil Lane secured the points for the away side.

St. Florence are through to the semi-final of this year's division four cup after a tense 2-1 win over Herbrandston seconds. A goal by Jamie Roberts and an own goal in extra-time made sure of their progress.

Carew seconds emulated their first team by also drawing 2-2 as they shared the points against Pennar Robins thirds.

Matthew Phillips and Tom Arthur scored the goals for the home side.

If goals were in short supply for Saundersfoot Sports' first team over the weekend, the opposite was true for their seconds as they entertained Solva seconds and won 7-0.

Luke Brolan and Jamie Morgan each scored twice for the Sports, with Gareth Hunt, Adam Brown and Chris Milward grabbing the others.

Kilgetty seconds travelled to Hook and won an epic match 8-7, while Simon Bancroft scored twice for St. Clears' seconds as they won 2-1 at Lawrenny, putting them in fourth spot in division five.

Meanwhile, Manorbier United seconds lost 2-1 to Hundleton seconds, with Mike Brown getting the only goal for the home side.
