Division One

Herbrandston 3 Narberth 2   Narberth's rustiness showed on Saturday as they lost a game they should have won. Defeat not only cost the Bluebirds three points but it may also have cost them the chance of ending the season as Division One Champions.  Manager Paul Phillips is an optimist though and firmly believes his side can still pip leaders Monkton to the post: "You have to say that Monkton are in the driving seat but we can still get there is they slip up. I saying that we've got some tough games left and we can't afford to slip up either." The worry for Phillips and his troops is the amount of games they will have to make up as the season draws to a close. The game against Herbie was the first in four weeks and the defensive lapses that cost them the game could stem from a lack of match practice.  It was 2-2 at the break with goals coming from a Jason Jones chip and a penalty from Richie Adams as Narberth fought from being behind twice thanks to goals from Nicky Woodrow. Although Narberth improved their performance after the break Herbie still had the edge and another defensive lapse allowed Woodrow in to score his third thus securing the points for his team.

Tenby 1 Merlins Bridge 5   Tenby battled throughout and played very well for most of the game. For the first 30 minutes Tenby kept the visitors at bay until Carl Mason scored for the visitors with a shot outside the box which crept under the bar. A header by Brett Shakir increased the Bridge lead before half time. Tenby suffered a body blow at the start of the second half and conceded two goals in the opening minutes. Although this unsettled the team for a while Tenby still fought hard after these two early goals by Adi Smith and Ben Scudder. The Tenby team re-grouped and were rewarded when Liam Robson found the back of the net with a shot from 30 yards into the top corner. A late solo effort by Nathan Thomas made it five goals for the visitors but a 3-1 score line would have been more representative on the day. Sixteen-year-old Richard Bridges played well in goal for Tenby and pulled off four excellent saves.     Division Two

Pendine 2 Prendergast Villa 4   Pendine may have made it into the final of the Second Division Cup but they won't be promoted into division one next season after this sorry defeat. In their defence though, Villa have been one of the form teams this season and losing to them is no disgrace.  "We were rubbish yesterday," said Justin Blewitt. "Our minds must have been on last week's game and the final. It was quite close in the end but they deserved it, we were never in it really."  They were definitely in it at half time as they were only 2-1 behind as Blewitt reduced the deficit with a well-taken penalty. Villa scored early in the second half to make it 3-1 before Blewitt struck again although it was all in vain as Villa scored a fourth as the game drew to a close. Joe John scored twice for Villa, with Guy White and Owain Carey getting the other gaols   St. Clears 1 Kilgetty 2   Kilgetty just shaded this derby game with defeat leaving St Clears's future as a division two club in doubt. Although they are not directly in the relegation zone, a few more defeats could send them there. After last week's poor showing the Saints needed a better performance and they certainly gave one as they led 1-0 at the break with Sam Thomas netting for the home side. Kilgetty drew level through Josh Bevan and a period of stalemate followed until Nicky Cope scored the winner after 75 minutes. Saints manager Mark Snelling conceded his tem lost to a better side. "It was pretty even in the first half but once their equaliser went in they started to get on top. A draw would have been nice as we certainly played a lot better this week but I think Kilgetty deserved it in the end." His words were echoed by Kilgetty manager Andrew Cope who said: "They are a tough side to break down and they certainly played well but once we drew level I was confident we would go on and win it."

Johnston 1 Saundersfoot Sports 1   Strangely enough after this result Saundersfoot slipped from sixth to eighth position in the league table and Johnston went up one place from fifth to fourth! Midway through the first half Danny Caine was brought down in the box and new signing Sam Coleman from Kilgetty gave the visitors the lead from the penalty spot. It was a pretty even game for the first half and the same pattern was evident in the second half. After just two minutes Andrew Murray levelled the scores with a goal for Johnston but that goal completed the scoring for the afternoon. Both teams had chances to score again which they failed to take. In a good all round team performance for Saundersfoot the experienced Ian Morris stood out in midfield as did Ben Gray did at the back.   Pendine 2 Prendergast Villa 4   Pendine may have made it into the final of the Second Division Cup but they won't be promoted into division one next season after this sorry defeat. Division Three   Lamphey 2 Lawrenny 2   Normally slow to start Lawrenny played some good football early on and created a number of chances.  It was only the agility of the Lamphey keeper which prevented the visitors from scoring. The breakthrough came after 13 minutes.  A free kick from Jonathon Cole found Stefan Jenkins on the left.  Jenkins beat a defender and then curved the ball into the top corner. Ben Randall equalised for Lamphey when he volleyed home a big long high ball.  The visitors got in front again in the opening stages of the second half with a goal from Chris Beff.  The striker won the ball from a Lamphey defender and made the most of this opportunity to score. A few minutes later Gordon Skyrme equalised for Lamphey.  A free kick from the right swung in and hit the bar and Skyrme tapped the ball in from close range. Geraint Nicholas had an excellent game in goal for Lawrenny and in the later stages of the second half he pulled off two cracking saves which kept the visitors in the game. Mike Jolly and Chris Beff proved to be an effective strike partnership up front and Ed Merriman was solid at the back.

Pembroke United 3 St. Florence 4   After last weeks cup heroics St.Florence went into the game in high sprits and for the first ten minutes they were in total command, and were awarded with a goal by top goal scorer Scott Smith weighing in with his 27th goal of the season. Despite St.Florence dominating the game, Pembroke showed how important it is to take your chances by scoring three quick goals to build up a two goal lead in the interval. After a Steve Wilkins half time team talk, St.Florence came out of the blocks with a quick two goal reprieve  starting with an effort from Andrew Culshaw. This was quickly followed up with a powerful header by skipper Jamie Roberts to bring the game all square. St.Florence continued to apply the pressure and were rewarded when Adam Johns scored a spectacular goal from 20 yards to make it 4-3. It was a brilliant scissor kick from a Ben Blake cross. St.Florence could have put the game to bed, but they kept the fans in suspense until the final whistle. Captain Jamie Roberts was very pleased how the Saints dug in and got the result they needed to keep them with a chance of promotion. Keeper James Phillips weighed in with a tremendous save, Ben Blake and Jamie Roberts had excellent second halves and the back four dealt with everything that came to them in the second half.

Third Division Cup - semi-final   St. Davids City 0 Manorbier United 3   The second of the third division cup semi finals was played at a windy Camrose ground and was a hard fought contest. With the wind slightly in their favour St Davids gained most of the territory in the first half. Playing to their strengths St Davids launched an aerial attack at the heart of the Manorbier defence which lead to several half chances being created in a scrappy first half. Manorbier played on the break and created half chances of their own. The closest to a first half goal came when the Saints hit the crossbar from a 20 yard free kick, just before the break, but importantly the Yellows defence had withstood the pressure on their goal. In a classic tale of two halves, Manorbier looked a different side in the second half and camped in the opposition half for most of it. When the goal came, it came with a stroke of luck when Sam Reeve's shot come cross, was headed in from 10 yards by Ben Hall. Manorbier took control of the game from this point onwards and Ben Hall added his second from the penalty spot following a handball by a St Davids defender. Ben Hall then set up Phil Christopher to add  the third with a sparkling left foot strike from 20 yards with ten minutes remaining and to book a place in the  final against local rivals St Florence. In a well contested match the whole of the Manorbier side deserve credit for reaching the cup final with their strong second half performance.

Reserve Cup semi-final

Herbrandston 1 Narberth 2 (after extra-time)   Narberth are through to the final of the Reserve Division Cup after this extra time thriller against Herbrandston.  Despite dominating the first half and keeping Herbie silent until the final three minutes of the second, the game was forced into extra time with Huw Vaughan grabbing the winner. Narberth were 1-0 up at the break as a Nigel Williams cross was bundled into Herbie's net by one of their own players and that's how the score remained until they equalised with just minutes to go which was just reward for their efforts over the final fifteen minutes Although Herbie had the upper hand as the full time loomed, they didn't take it into extra time as Narberth's cored first through Vaughn's tap in and that's how the score remained until the close of play. "It was a tough game," commented Bluebirds assistant manager Adrian Howells. "A draw would have been fair but someone has to go through and fortunately that was us. Special mention for Nigel Thomas, he made a great save at the end after being called in to play at the last minute."

Reserve Division One

Kilgetty 0 Johnston 2   Kilgetty seconds endured a poor afternoon at home as they lost out to Johnston. Barry Ormond's men were never in it really as the Tigers controlled the game throughout although both their goals, scored by Mark Sture and Andrew Ablitt came in the second half. "This was our first game for four weeks and it showed. We just never got started and our match fitness told in the second half. They deserved it and we didn't," said a disappointed Ormond.

Carew 2 Hakin United 2   Carew have moved up one place in the reserve division two tables following this hard fought draw at home to the Vikings. Goals by Sam Goodwin and Joe Kidney salvaged a point for the Carew team.   Reserve Division Two

Lawrenny 2 Pendine 2   Pendine made amends for last week's defeat by coming away from Lawrenny with a creditable draw. Both sides endeavoured to play attacking football at all times and the small crowd were not disappointed. Jonathan Beff and Andrew Collins scored for the homesters while Pendine's goals were converted by Ashley Eades and Steve Thomas.

Milford Haven 1 Carew 3   Carew manager Mike Lewis summed up the match by saying, "It was not the best of our performances this season.  We created a lot of chances especially in the first half which were not converted into goals. However all of the boys dug in and we got the result in the end." The only goal of the first half came from the boot of Ashley Mathias. In the second half the visitors got back into the game through an own goal and then nudged ahead after Ollie Morgan picked up the ball in his own half and set off on a good run before being brought down in the box. Striker Mike Boswell made no mistake from the penalty spot. Carew put the game out of reach of Milford United with a third goal which was scored by Rob Whitfield and although the team was not on the top of their game everyone worked hard with a view to getting the result.

Manorbier United 1 Tenby 2   In the first half both teams were evenly matched. At the start of the second half Gerard Brockway opened the scoring for the Yellows but Nicky Glanville equalised for the visitors.  After a shot on goal was half saved Nicky Glanville kept on running, pinched the ball and took it around the keeper. A header by sixteen year old Aled Townsend from a good cross by Nicky Glanville put the visitors up front in what turned out to be a match winner. Manorbier played really well and would have won if chances had been taken. Play was pretty even for most of the time but Tenby took their opportunities to score. Lee Simmonds at the back had a very good game for Tenby and Zac Prior showed up well in midfield in his first game for the club at this level. Other good performances were put in by Billy Connor together with Aled Townsend and Nicky Glanville up front.

Saundersfoot Sports 1 Solva 4   Lawrence Rogers put the Saundersfoot team in front in the first half but Solva had a lead equaliser by Craig Challonder. Saundersfoot had played well in the first half but at the start of the second half were put on the back foot when the visitors scored two quick goals through James Griffin and Mathew Hughes. Sports kept trying and could have reduced the deficit when a penalty was awarded but the opportunity to score was missed.  The Saundersfoot team also came close on a number of other occasions without finding the back of the net. Manager Andrew Spencer said, "We matched Solva all of the way but simply could not score the goals we needed." For Saundersfoot Paul Evans played well up front, as did Paul Thomas at the back.
