Division One
Hakin United 5 Tenby 0
Hakin United away is a tough fixture for any division one team and tougher still for Tenby who are bottom of the table and without a win to their name to date. Nevertheless, in many ways, the visitors were able to take away some positives from the result. Dene Hurlow, who was on managerial duties for the day, said: "The players gritted their teeth, battled well, competed and put boys in front of the ball. "By taking this approach we were able to limit the Vikings to a lead of just two goals at the interval. "We continued to battle in the second half and the enthusiasm of the players could not be faulted and in many ways the overall result was a good performance." Perry Broadhurst did hit the post for Tenby after 10 minutes, but the ball rolled across the goal-line and out of play. In the second half, Tenby continued to fight until the end and 'keeper Lewis Hurlow pulled off six excellent saves which helped to keep the score down. For Hakin United, Andrew Kingston scored twice and the other goals were scored by Mike Cooper, Steve Mathias and Scott Davies.
Narberth 5 Camrose 0
Narberth's magnificent league form continued against Camrose on Saturday with a victory that manager Paul Phillips described as 'one-way traffic.' The Bluebirds dominated throughout the afternoon as the home team blew the opposition, away scoring five goals without reply and creating opportunities to score more. The fact that they didn't may not have affected the result, but it would have been nice for them to do so, especially considering the same opponents were responsible for knocking Phillips's men out of the Senior Cup. "It was a pity we didn't dominate them in this way in the cup," he said. "We played really well again and should have scored more." Narberth were 3-0 up at the break with goals from Mike Beynon, Jamie Bradfield and a superb header from Grant James, who rose above everyone in the box to knock in Marc Hughes's corner. It was the same story after the interval as Narberth pressed forward in the relentless pursuit of goals. Beynon scored the fourth with a penalty and Bradfield hammered home a Dave Gillard cross with a fine volley to seal a comprehensive win.
Neyland 0 Carew 1
Third placed Carew picked up their sixth win out of seven matches and with three games in hand over the division one leaders Monkton Swifts are well placed at this stage of the season. It was a game of few chances and striker Mike Boswell came the closest to scoring for the visitors in the first half. A strong wind made life difficult for both teams. In the second half it was much of the same, but Carew claimed the winner after 80 minutes when Mike Boswell took advantage of a defensive error to go around the Neyland 'keeper to score. Commenting after the game, Carew manager Mike Lewis said: "It is always a hard game at Neyland who have some very good players in their team so we were pleased to come away with three points and to keep a clean sheet." Lewis recognises that Carew's possibility of having a run in two cup competitions can create a backlog of league fixtures, but the Carew club is aiming to compete well in all football competitions this season. It was a good team performance by Carew, with Martin Scourfield solid in defence and being especially adept in the air.
Division Two
Kilgetty 2 Clarbeston Road 1
Kilgetty recorded a good home win against Clarbeston Road in a game of high octane end to end football. Manager Andrew Cope was delighted with the result, saying: "It was an excellent game which we deserved to win. We had to defend hard at the end as Clarbie came back at us, but we did enough at the end." The homesters recovered from being a goal down to equalise through an Anthony Bevan strike in the box and then took the lead later on in the first half as Bevan headed home a cross by Nicky Cope. The second half was a different kettle of fish as the visitors regrouped with the wind behind them, but the Kilgetty defence came up trumps, securing all three points for the home team.
Pendine 2 Hundleton 0
Pendine secured a good home win against tricky opposition, winning 2-0 with a goal in each half. Rob Waters continued his fine form in front of the net to push the Seagulls ahead, while Luke Ormond sealed the victory with five minutes to go with a fine individual effort. Gulls' manager Justin Blewitt described the win as 'Scrappy', but added that it was three points at the end of the day. What pleased him most was the fact that the visitors never looked like scoring, which bodes well for the rest of the season as it shows that Pendine have strength in defence as well as attack.
Saundersfoot Sports 0 Prendergast Villa 3
Saundersfoot Sports were on top in the first half, but Villa took the lead with a goal by Simon Ateyo after 15 minutes. In the second half, the visitors had the edge and Joe John increased the lead. Sports were reduced to 10 players after a quarter- of-an-hour following a handball incident and with 15 minutes of the match remaining, Simon Ateyo ran from the back and scored a cracking goal from 25 yards. The Saundersfoot team kept going and Tom Davies came close a couple of times to getting goals back for Saundersfoot. Unfortunately, Davies is not available on a regular basis and a little bit short of match practice. Russell Evans and Paul 'Tiny' Thomas had good games at the back for Saundersfoot, teenager Scott Davidson played well on the left side of midfield and James Caine also played well in midfield.
St. Clears 2 Johnston 4
St Clears gave a creditable performance at home against Johnston despite being forced to play the entire match with 10 men. Player unavailability stripped them of some regular players and it told in the end, despite a spirited display. Saints supremo Mark Snelling said of the defeat: "Playing with 10 men told in the end, but I'm not too downhearted as the boys played well and put their hearts into it. It could have been a lot worse, but it wasn't and that's something to be proud of." Indeed it is and St. Clears could have gone into the interval on even terms, but conceded a goal just before the break. Before that they had recovered from being 2-0 down with a penalty by Eddie Wiggins and a fine shot from Simon Bancroft. Try as they might, another equaliser wasn't forthcoming and the visitors took the spoils with a late fourth goal. Brett James netted twice for the visitors, backed up by goals from Andrew Murray and Scott Murray.
Division Three
Broad Haven 3 Lawrenny 2
Following this game, Lawrenny lie in eighth position of the division three table, with Broad Haven two places above in sixth position. The visitors started brightly and passed the ball around well and Rob Williams hit the woodwork after 10 minutes. It was Williams who gave Lawrenny the lead when he controlled the ball well from a Mike Howe free- kick. Lawrenny continued to look comfortable, but Jim Nutting equalised for Broad Haven when he took advantage of a defensive slip-up. Jonathon Beff and Paul Brooks both had good efforts for the visitors, but another defensive blunder allowed Broad Haven to take the lead just before half-time with a goal from Ian May. In the second half it was a different story and Lawrenny didn't come out of the changing rooms. A goal by Ross Beese increased the lead when Beese struck the ball from a free-kick 25 yards out which swirled into the top corner. Substitute Andrew Cole junior did claw one back for the visitors when the ball dropped between a defender and the 'keeper for Cole to nip in to score in the bottom corner. For Lawrenny, Rob Williams played well at the back and strikers Jonathon Beff and Paul Brooks kept the Broad Haven defenders on their toes.
Manorbier United 6 Pembroke United 0
Manorbier gained another three points in their bid for promotion from Division Three. On a breezy afternoon at the sportsfield, the home side dominated a fairly one-sided match against the division's bottom side. Manorbier attacked from the off and within one minute skipper Ben Hall had opened the scoring from close range. It took another 15 minutes before his brother James made it two with a fine left-foot strike. The next 30 minutes then turned into the 'Andrew Culshaw show'. First he struck a beauty from 20 yards, then slid a shot past the 'keeper to make it 4-0 at half time. In the second half, Culshaw completed his hat-trick with another well-taken goal, but due to cost cuts could not take the match ball home! To round things off the 'blond bombshell', Josh Hawkes added a sixth with a super finish. On a satisfying afternoon for the home side, Andrew Culshaw was a revelation in attack and Simon 'Razor Ruddock' Bolton made some fine runs from defence.
St. Florence United 3 Newport Lions 1
The Saints have now won six out of nine games to date and are well placed in fourth position in the table with a game in hand over two of the teams above them in the table. St. Florence controlled things in the first half and deserved to take the lead with a goal by Mark Roberts from a corner. Veteran Ben Blake increased the lead in the second half with one of his speciality scorching volleys. A direct free-kick by Brett Evans beat everyone. including the Lions' defenders, but the visitors came back in the last 20 minutes and applied some pressure. Their efforts were awarded with a goal by Will Bendall. It was another good all-round team performance by the Saints, who are continuing to play good football. On the day, Brett Evans was the star man in midfield.
Reserve Division One
Carew 2 Narberth 2
Narberth earned a good away draw at division leaders Carew, but could have snatched a win were it not for a late equaliser by the home side. Carew went into the break 1-0, courtesy of an own goal following a mix-up in the Bluebirds' defence. That was cancelled out in the second half as skipper Adrian Howells scored after 20 minutes and then a Steve Williamson shot gave them the lead. A win was looking likely, despite a late Carew comeback, but on 89 minutes Barry Evans managed to squeeze one in to earn them a share of the points.
Johnston 2 Kilgetty 3
Kilgetty produced a superb performance to give them an away win at Johnston. Manager Barry Ormond was delighted with the win, saying: "We deserved it. We played well as a team and our defence was superb." Kilgetty took the lead after squandering a hatful of early chances as Jamie Morgan scored. This was cancelled out early in the second half, but Wayne Scourfield made amends as he gave the visitors the lead. Ormond then extended it to 3-1 before Johnston scored another to give them a flattering scoreline in the end. John Davies and Andrew Ablitt were on target for the home team.
Reserve Division Two
Hundleton 2 Saundersfoot Sports 5
Saundersfoot Sports had a comprehensive away win at Hundleton who are struggling at the bottom of the reserve division two table. Rhys Hunt scored twice, Thomas Spencer confirmed his rich promise with another goal, with David Otten and Laurence Rogers also getting their names on the scoresheet. For Hundleton, Mark Robinson and Scott A'lee both found the back of the Saundersfoot net.
Lawrenny 0 Haverfordwest Cricket Club 4
In the first half, Lawrenny played some good football against the wind, but the young Haverfordwest team scored three breakaway goals. Rory Blake struck twice and the other goal was scored by Julian Wood. In the second half, Lawrenny used the long ball with the wind and created some chances, but midway through the half, Rory Blake completed a deserved hat-trick. For Lawrenny, goalkeeper Geraint Nicholas had another good game and there were also sound performances by Rhys Jenkins and Steve Lewis in midfield. It was a good sporting game, although the scoreline may have flattered the Cricketers a bit. The Haverfordwest team had two excellent wing backs, who both made a difference, and the Cricketers' 'keeper also pulled off two excellent saves.
Pembroke Boro 5 St. Clears 5
The most dramatic result of the day went to St. Clears' second team as they came back from being 5-2 down to earn a point through a last-minute special from Andrew McCabe. McCabe added a second to his tally on the stroke of full-time with a shot from the halfway line which sent his team-mates into raptures of delight. The home team took a fine 2-0 lead early in the first half, but the Saints responded with two goals from Stuart Phillips, before the Boro added a third just before the break. That lead was extended by another two goals before the visitors late charge as Phillips completed his hat-trick and McCabe scored his first from a touchline free-kick. This effort was outdone by his second from halfway as a disbelieving Pembroke Boro trudged off wondering where it all went wrong. For Boro, Darren Thomas had a hat-tick with Robert George and Jason Beynon claiming one goal each.
Prendergast Villa 8 Pendine 2
The Gulls' second string was forced to travel to Prendergast Villa with a depleted side, but for the first 20 minutes gave as good as they got until a lack of match fitness told at the end. Prendergast turned the screw in the second half, but Pendine earned some credibility with goals from Ashley Eades and Richard Pearce. Ben Turnbull, Gareth Richards and Anthony Davies each had a brace for Villa, with the other two goals being scored by Matthew Baileux and Mark Cross.
Solva 8 Manorbier United 1
Manorbier came away from their furthest away fixture disappointed to concede so many goals. The home side came at the Blues strongly in the first half, with Joe Reeve putting in some excellent clean-cut defensive challenges to thwart them early on. Solva weren't to be denied, however, and managed to take a 2-0 lead. Ricky Rees Thomas did manage to pull a goal back for the visitors and for a while the game was close. But in the last 20 minutes, five further goals were scored as the Manorbier defence failed to hold out. Manorbier manager Will Hughes was disappointed with the margin of defeat, especially as his teams had battled well for 70 minutes. Matthew Harries picked up four goals for Solva, with Craig Challoner, Richard Edwards, Will Chant and Ben Fawcett getting the others.
Tenby 2 Letterston 0
This was a very good well-contested game and was end-to-end action in the first half. The visitors defended well with some strong tackling and also came close to scoring a number of times, but Mark Reed pulled off some excellent saves in the Tenby goal. The second half was played in a similar manner, but with 15 minutes of the match remaining, Tenby took the lead when Mike Cornick was on target from a Matt Broadhurst corner. A corner from the left taken by Peter Horsley enabled Tenby to increase the lead with a header by Matt Broadhurst, who later described the kick taken by Horsley as being a "fantastic corner." For Tenby, Wayne Callan had a good game up front, 16-year-old Richard Bridges made an excellent debut in senior football on the left, Peter Horsley was creative in midfield and substitute Steve Williams showed the value of his experience.
