Local footballer Adam Hughes from Tenby, was sadly diagnosed in April 2013 with chronic kidney failure, and had to undergo 10 hours of dialysis daily until in October 2014 he was given a new lease of life with a kidney transplant.

Adam has always been a very keen sportsman and footballer and most recently was both a player and manager for Carew FC in the Pembrokeshire League.

Since his Transplant Adam has worked hard to regain his fitness and has always tried to maintain his football and currently plays in a  five-a-side league for Gobaith Cymru FC, (a South Wales transplant charity team) and for the Wales Transplant Team.

Whilst playing for Transplant Wales in a national tournament in 2018 Adam ‘caught the eye’ of the British selectors and was invited to trials for the Great Britain Transplant Sport team last Autumn

Adam is delighted to now hear that he has been selected for the GB Transplant Football team for the World Transplant Games to be held in August this year at Gateshead. International Stadium.

Sadly Transplant Sport does not receive any funding and all the athletes have to support their own expenditure.

This includes paying a registration fee of £425, purchasing kit at £325 and paying all their own travel and accommodation costs.  In addition there will be squad training sessions pre the games at Warwick University.

Adam will also be representing the Wales team at the GB Transplant games which are this year being held in Newport, Wales in July

It would be very sad if Adam was not able to take part in this wonderful opportunity due to lack of funds.

Many people have said that they want to support Adam and a ‘GoFundMe’ page has been set up for this purpose at www.gofundme.com (search for ‘Adam John Hughes Transplant Sport’).

All funds raised will be strictly used to support Adam’s Transplant Sport expenses and any surplus raised will be donated to the Kidney Wales Charity.

CAPTION.
