LOCAL businessman Jamie Street has been selected as the Welsh Conservative candidate for the forthcoming Market Ward by-election in Pembroke Dock.
Mr Street, who grew up in the ward, said his decision to stand was motivated by a desire to improve local services and ensure residents receive strong representation at Pembrokeshire County Council.
Paying tribute to the late Councillor Brian Hall, who represented the ward for almost three decades, Jamie said his commitment to the community had earned widespread respect and left a lasting legacy.
Commenting on his selection, he said: "It's an honour to contest the ward where I grew up. Pembroke Dock is my home, and I care deeply about its future. If elected, I will work hard to ensure Pembroke Dock's voice is heard in County Hall and that local people receive the representation they deserve."
Jamie Street and his partner run an accountancy firm in Pembrokeshire. He said his experience working with local businesses and families had given him a strong understanding of the economic pressures facing the county and the challenges affecting small businesses.
Prior to joining his partner in running the business, Jamie spent 17 years working at Pembroke Refinery, including serving as a trade union representative. He said the role taught him the importance of preparation, research and effective representation.
Among his priorities are supporting local services, ensuring value for taxpayers and strengthening opportunities for local businesses. He has also highlighted the importance of practical education, including financial literacy and life skills, to help prepare young people for adulthood.
Mr Street is also a supporter of local sport and physical activity, believing that stronger links between schools and community sports clubs can help young people develop confidence, resilience and teamwork.
The Market Ward by-election will take place on Thursday, July 9.
