THREE local children, their mum and pet dog have recently become film stars! Eleven-year-old George Mcbeth, his sister Annamae, 10, and brother Henry, aged six, mum Sara and their dog Max, were approached by a casting agency from Cardiff in the spring. The only member of the family who didn't get a chance to have five minutes of fame was Amelia, who is nearly two, as her mum thought she was too young. They were all chosen to appear as extras in a film directed by Peter Greenaway called 'Nightwatching'. The film is an adaptation of Rembrandt's greatest masterpiece, 'The Night Watch', and was set in 1642, the year the painting was created. The film tells the story of a dangerous attempt to cast suspicion on one of the guardsmen in the painting and portrays a magnificent reflection of Amsterdam's society in the middle of the Dutch Golden Age, centering on Rembrandt's social and symbolic relationships with his three wives, Saskia, Geertje and Hedrickje. Filming for the Mcbeth family took place during half-term in Llandeilo. It gave them all a chance to dress in many period costumes of the mid-16th century and the rub shoulders with Rembrandt himself, alias Martin Freeman from The Office and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The family all had a fantastic time filming and thoroughly enjoyed a true taste of lights, camera, action! The film is set to be released in cinemas next year.
