Angle RNLI volunteers were requested by Milford Haven Coastguard to launch the all-weather lifeboat at 6:28 pm on Monday night after reports that a man had fallen off a tanker three miles south-west of St. Ann's Head.

The RNLI volunteers launched the Tamar class lifeboat at 6.38 pm and rushed to the scene.

As the lifeboat arrived, the man had been pulled from the water by the company's pilot boat. Luckily for the casualty, a person on a nearby tug had seen the man falling from the tanker and the pilot boat immediately rushed over to help pull him from the water.

When the all-weather lifeboat arrived on scene, an RNLI crew member was transferred from the lifeboat to the pilot boat to assess the casualty and gave him first aid until the RAF helicopter arrived. The casualty was then winched from the pilot boat by helicopter and transferred to hospital.

Lewis Creese, Angle RNLI coxswain, said: "It was very lucky that someone spotted the man fall from the tanker, and if it wasn't for the quick reaction of the crew from the tug and pilot boat, the outcome could have been very different."

The RNLI volunteers made their way back to station, returning to Angle at 7.34 pm.
