Police and licensees are working together in the Pembroke and Pembroke Dock areas to make the towns a safer place.

The Pembroke Borough and District Licensed Victuallars Association (LVA) is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

The chair of the LVA, Max Shankland, says working with the police is now key in making their pubs safer.

He said: "Having a strong partnership with the police really does work. The Behave Or Be Banned (BOBB) scheme has made a real change in people's attitudes.

"There are still problems and there always will be, but we know people want to come out and enjoy themselves responsibly and with the police we are targeting those who don't.

"The BOBB scheme is a really effective deterrent."

The BOBB scheme has 43 members and is run by the LVA and licensed members in conjunction with the neighbourhood policing teams.

Anyone who causes problems in or around a pub can be referred to the scheme.

The scheme operates by imposing bans on these people.

PCSO Dave Powell, from Pembroke Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "The message is quite simple - it's banned from one, banned from all. Although the police support the scheme, it's down to the LVA and the membership to decide who receives a ban and for how long."

Max added: "We will not tolerate anti-social behaviour or violence in our premises and our customers don't want us to tolerate it.

"Many customers won't be aware of the issues on a night out as we and the police deal with them effectively before it gets out of hand."
