A town councillor has said that extra strain could be put on services at Tenby Cottage Hospital when 'later living' accommodation is opened in the town.

Speaking at Tuesday night's meeting of Tenby Town Council, Clr. Mrs. Trisha Putwain said that in light of the construction work that was underway from builders McCarthy and Stone, to develop 38 new later living properties overlooking the North Beach, more pressure might be put on GPs.

"I have great admiration for the staff at the surgery, but I fear that even more strain may be put on GPs at the facility with more elderly people living nearby," she commented.

Her colleague, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown, agreed and said that the comments should be passed on to South East Pembrokeshire Community Health Network (SEPCHN) secretary, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas, as the group were currently seeking information about problems people were having obtaining minor injuries treatment following the Hywel Dda Health Board decision to close Tenby MIU without adequate alternative arrangements being in place.
