A large crowd stayed on at Pembroke Farmers Club Show at Lamphey to watch the latest round of the Pembrokeshire Terrier and Lurcher Championship, the fourth round in which 50 dogs ran in seven classes over 24 races.

The Tenby Dog Racers were again running things and there were many exciting events, with Bertie and Bubba again in a close finish in the open terrier class.

Results in the various catergories were as follows:

Terriers under 12inch: Bertie - trained by Kate at Lawrenny.

Lurchers under 21in: Blue, trained by Billy at Tenby

Lurchers over 21in: Weasel, trained by P. Morgan at Clarbeston Road.

Greyhounds: Meg, trained by Spud Bolton, Tenby

Whippets: Shadrock, trained by Jim

Novelty: Jess, trained by Lorraine.

Novice: Spring, trained by Ann Jones.

Terriers Open Championship: 1. Bubba, trained by Jenny at Rosemarket; 2. Bertie; 3. Twt (only three finished)

Lurchers Open Championship: 1. Dash, trained by Nick at Pembroke; 2. Paddy; 3. Max; 4. Weasel.

On Sunday last, racing took place at Manorbier Fun Day on the local football field by kind permission of the football club committee Over 200 people, including many holidaymakers, turned up to see some fine racing on a lovely summer's afternoon.

Again we had some really exciting racing and, although the entries were down, with less than 50 dogs running in more than 20 races, the competition was great.

Results were this time were as follows:

Terriers under 10in: No finishers.

Terriers under 12in: Bertie, trained by Kate at Lawrenny.

Lurchers under 21in: Benny, trained by Phil.

Lurchers over 21in: Max, trained by Kevin at Neyland.

Novelty: Jess, trained by Lorraine

Novice: B.B., trained by Jane.

Terriers Open Championship: 1. Bubba, trained by Jenny at Rosemarket; 2. Bertie; 3. Twt; 4. Bob.

Lurchers Open Championship: 1. Max, trained by Kevin at Neyland; 2. Dash; 3. Dave; 4. B.B.

Leaders in the championship after five rounds are:

Open Terrier - Bubba, trained by Jenny at Rosemarket, 21 pts; Bertie, trained by Kate at Lawrenny, 19 pts.

Open Lurchers - Max, trained by Kevin at Neyland, 15 pts; Dash, trained by Nick at Tenby, 11 pts.

The last two meetings of the season are at Martletwy Show at the Show Ground, Carew, on Wednesday, August 21, scheduled for 5.30 pm, with a 6 pm start. Then Cresselly Village Fete on August Monday at 4.30 pm to end the season.

The championships will be decided most probably on the last day when the cups and prizes will be presented.
