April and May are busy months as ladies' sections play a number of qualifying competitions for national events.

The April GUW medal was played in conjunction with the Peggy Cobb Cup, a gross competition, and both were won by Sue Griffiths with 86 gross, nett 73, and Pam Cole was second on 87 gross, 77 nett.

The first of the qualifying competitions was played the following week for the Welsh final of the Australian spoons foursomes at Langland Bay on July 6, the winners being Heather Morgan and Denise Edwards, with Rita Collins and Mel Smith runners-up.

The third Hill Lowe Bogey was played at the end of April and Rita Collins had a good round, finishing on +1, while Anita Davies and Pam Cole were both on -1.

The second foursomes qualifying competition was for the Coronation foursomes and Anita Davies and Anne Wilks will be representing Tenby at Clyne on July 29, while Jean Charnock and Rita Collins were just beaten into second place.

The Jubilee Three Stableford competition runs for some six months each year, with the leading national score winning the Garfield Evans Trophy. The leading score so far this year was put in by Denise Edwards, Anne Wilks and Eiona Aston, with Rita Collins, Barbara Williams and Julie Lovett second.

Finally, for this report on Thursday competitions, the May Medal was won by Anita Davies on nett 74, with Pam Cole on 75 and Heather Morgan on 76.

Threading their way from April to September, the eight Three Counties League matches are played and so far this year Tenby has played Ashburnham at home in very wet weather and won convincingly, South Pembs away, which was lost, and more recently Trefloyne at home, which was won 3.5 to 1.5. This was a satisfying result as the Tenby team prepares for the Welsh Team Championships next month at Cradoc.
