Sir,

As Whitsun approaches, I am hoping for a hot sunny week and remember the hot Whitsuns of the last few years.

Then I also remembered the concern raised by my sister  about how busy the beaches had been and how there were no lifeguards on duty. My nephew had got lost whilst on the beach and there was nobody there to help.

I am very concerned about the lack of lifeguards at this time, especially when the beaches are so important for tourism in our area. I have also found out that some other South Wales councils have had lifeguards on their beaches from the start of May and Barry Island even started theirs at Easter! If our beaches are seen to be so important and the fuss is made when they are awarded Seaside and Blue Flag awards, why are there no lifegaurds?
