This month, the Kilgetty Golf Society stalwarts took on the hazards of the beautiful parkland course at Trefloyne. Considering the rainfall of recent days, the course was in very good condition, apart from some of the bunkers, one more resembling a swimming pool!
Six teams of three began teeing off at 10 am with heavy dew still on the fairways.
Order of play was: Martin 'Del-Boy' Davies, Bobby 'Jalna' King and Glyn 'Cleggy' Jones; Keith 'Luke' Warmington, Gary 'Compo' Hopkins and Wyn 'Lob Wedge' Hopkins; Mark 'Woody' Wood, John 'Geordie' Hargraves and Trevor 'Santa' Lewis; Stuart 'Smokie Joe' Evans, Frank 'Meidrim' Simmons and Tim 'Gavel' Davies; Barry 'Chippy' Wood, Steve 'Kenny' Kennings and Richard 'Nelson' Davies; John 'Scribe' James, Lee 'Long-shot' Lewis and Allan 'B&B' Haggerty.
The first at Trefloyne is quite daunting, with woods close on the left, a ditch within driving range and more trees on the right; a few balls disappeared into the woods. Long 'rough' and other hazards, such as the quarry, took their share of lost balls, keeping the scoring relatively low, with quite a few players worrying about the wooden spoon!
Results as follows: In first place with 34 pts, John 'Scribe' James, pipping Keith 'Luke' Warmington by one point and Trevor 'Santa' Lewis in third place with 32. All Trefloyne members! The OAP prize also went to Santa. Over 20 handicap winner was John 'Geordie' Hargraves.
Lee 'Long-shot' Lewis lived up to his name once more, taking the longest drive on the 18th. Nearest the pin winner was Bobby 'Jalna' King.
Winning team was Mark 'Woody', John 'Geordie' and Trevor 'Santa'.
Finally, the wooden spoon, with a score of 'not many', Martin 'Del-Boy' Davies.
This was also the end-of-season prize-giving for best results throughout the year. Most longest drives went to Lee 'Long-shot' Lewis - how can we handicap him? Nearest the pin winner was Darrell 'Ex-Rods' Jones. The wooden spoon (extra large) went to Mike 'Janitor' Thomas - we should be giving him lessons! The best OAP prize went to the ever-young septagerarian, Barry 'Chippy' Wood, with a total of 219 points. The overall winner was Gary 'Compo' Hopkins, in second place was Mark 'Woody' Wood and, in third spot was Trevor 'Santa' Lewis -well done everyone.
Many thanks to Mark and Barry for all their efforts throughout the year. Also thanks to Trefloyne and the caterers for a very pleasant day.
Next month, the venue is Tenby on December 10. Please let Mark or Barry know if you are available.
The KGS would like to thank Heatherton for donating a golf shirt for the raffle prize.
