In the 21 years since it was inaugurated, the Camrose Vintage Working Day committee had donated a total of £85,000 to various worthy causes locally and nationally. But, since 2006 was something of a milestone marking their efforts, they agreed to make a further substantial donation and the unanimous choice was to the Welsh Air Ambulance. The area co-ordinator, Hilary Harvey, of Begelly, was present on Tuesday evening to receive a cheque for £3,700 which, she said, might probably save four lives. In warmly thanking the committee for their continued generosity, Hilary stated that the service cost £2.5 million each year to run, the bulk of which came from voluntary contributions. Each hour the service was operating costs £1,000 but this, she insisted, was the 'golden hour' in many cases the difference between life and death since the helicopter could be on the scene of an emergency within minutes while precious time might be lost arriving there by other means.
