Sir, Having moved to South Pembrokeshire nine years ago, I do feel very strongly about supporting our local businesses in the area. As Christmas is looming ever nearer, I would like to try to encourage readers to buy their Christmas shopping locally. During the summer we rely a great deal on tourism in the area (it is lovely to see the 'bucket and spade' brigade in high season bringing their parents along to hold the cash for ice-creams and various shapes of inflatables for the sea). But, when it comes to Christmas, you really do not need to find a 'city' (other than St. David's) to be able to please your nearest and dearest. You can easily find nearby that cuddly polar bear for young Jemima, that head-banging CD for Kevin the teenager, and I'm sure that great Aunt Agatha wouldn't say no to another bottle of sweet sherry again this Christmas (okay, so she took over the Karaoke last year in all of the excitement, but it was fun wasn't it?). So go on, surprise yourself, do all your Chrimbo shopping here. I like the fact that you can buy really original things here (no, not necessarily the sherry), but hand-made items and crafts and excellent local produce. Keep it local.

PS. I do not own, run or work for a local shop!
