Friday saw Tenby Golf Club hold the Tenby Junior Open. With a field of 70 young golfers with handicaps ranging from three to 38 and six different competitions to play for, competition was always going to be keen. The day itself was dry, bright, but a little bit breezy, especially in the morning. First out onto the course was Sam Morgan, Tenby Junior captain and three-handicapper, who started with a double bogey six, but this was to be his only slip-up and he duly recorded a gross 70 to win the white box gross competition and the Daily Telegraph qualifier. Luke Roberts won the white box nett competition with a score of 72. In the girls competition, Mairi McDougal from Haverfordwest won the gross competition and the Daily Telegraph qualifier, with Emma Guerreiro from Tenby winning the nett competition. The yellow box stableford for boys was won with an excellent score of 43 points by Luke Russel from Cardigan. Jack Hawkey from Tenby won the nine- hole black box stableford with 24 points, another good great score. The junior organiser would like to thank all the people who gave up their time to help out on the day, especially Ted, Ann, Ann, Mary, Mike, Arnold, Ian, Ann and Heather - without your help the day would not be such a success. The catering and course were also up to the normal high standards, along with the service from the bar and the Pro Shop. On Sunday, the Under 11 Cup was held and in good weather conditions some excellent scores were posted. At three under par, David Webb, off the yellow tees, was in with a good shout, but unfortunately he was just beaten at the post by Joe Worley, who came in four under par off of the black tees to win the cup. Well done to all the competitors who took part in this competition. This Sunday, we will be playing the monthly medal. Mark will be carrying out his group lesson for all juniors at 9.30, so please turn up early, have your lesson and sign in at the shop before playing. I.P.W.D.
