The Rector, Fr. Paul, led the morning Eucharist service in Jeffreyston Church, which was well attended on the Feast Day of Pentecost, Sunday, May 31. It was also the birthday of the church and the day for the Baptism of baby Dominic. The readings given were: Acts 2.vv 1 - 21; Romans 8.vv 22 - 7. The Gospel reading was John 15.vv 26 - end, 16. vv 1 - 15, where we read of the work of the Holy Spirit.
Fr. Paul first gave a short homily explaining about Pentecost and the baptism of baby Dominic. The relatives of baby Dominic then came out to the front of the church for his baptism and at the end of this, Janet Williams, a faithful member of Jeffreyston Church, gave them a lighted candle to signify the light of Christ, which had come into the life of baby Dominic that day.
Towards the end of the service, Fr. Paul was proud to show the congregation the work done by the Sunday School, with cleverly made cardboard cut-out posters showing flames with tongues to signify the coming of the Gifts of the Spirit. The closing prayer, which embraced the theme of the day, was beautifully read by Naomi.
After the service, everyone sang 'Happy Birthday' to both the church and baby Dominic. Then they enjoyed refreshments with birthday cake kindly provided by the ladies of the church.
Services for Trinity Sunday, June 7, are: 9 am - Eucharist, East Williamston; 10.30 am - Eucharist and Sunday School, Jeffreyston; 12 noon - Eucharist, Loveston; 6 pm - Evensong, Jeffreyston.
