The Rector, Fr. Paul, led the morning Eucharist services in Jeffreyston parishes on Sunday, the ninth Sunday after Pentecost. The Bible readings were Genesis 28.vv 10-19 and Romans 8.vv 12-25. The Gospel reading was Matthew 13.vv 24-30 and 36-43. In discussing the Gospel reading, Fr. Paul said that whilst we may despair at reports of evil acts carried out in the world today, we have the assurance that God's power, which is unlimited, extends to everyone. He added that we need to encourage the best in people. Afterwards, Emma June beautifully read out the closing prayer, which summed up the theme of the day and afterwards Fr. Paul was proud to show the colourful posters which had been made in the Sunday School; these clearly showed the mixture of Good and Evil. There was very good attendance at the Evening Sea Sunday Service held at Cresswell Quay. Fr. Paul, assisted by the Rev. Peter Lewis, Rector of Narberth, led the service. The guest speaker was the Rev. Sylvia Temple, of the Templeton group of parishes. Thanks were first of all expressed to Maurice and Janet Cole, of the Cresselly Arms, for arranging matters and to George for great help with the seating etc, also to Rebecca Evans for attending at short notice to play the organ. The reading was from the Gospel of Mark, chapter six, verses 30-44, which relates the miracle of the feeding of the five thousand. For her well-delivered sermon, Rev. Sylvia took as the text, words from verse 34 of the Gospel reading 'he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd'. She said that although we need food for our physical well-being, we need also the spiritual food from God. She urged us to seek time with God, when we are quiet and able to meditate. The collection taken was to be sent to the Mission to Seafarers. Church services this Sunday are: 9 am - Eucharist, East Williamston; 10.30 am - Eucharist and Sunday School, Jeffreyston; 12 noon - Eucharist, Reynalton; 6 pm - Evensong, Jeffreyston.
