The annual meeting of Jeffreyston Community Council was held recently at which Clr. Robert Scourfield was elected chairman and Clr. Derek Scourfield vice-chairman for the ensuing year, respectively.
On taking the chair, Clr. R. Scourfield thanked members for appointing him and also thanked the outgoing chairman, Clr. T. B. Miller, for the manner in which he had led the council during the past year.
Mr. Matthew Owens, rural housing enabler, had prepared a questionnaire to establish the need for low-cost housing in the area which would be distributed to every house in the council's area. It was hoped that residents would respond in order that an accurate assessment may be made.
Information was received from Pembrokeshire County Council regarding the issue of home composting bins. Distribution in the council's area would be carried out during week commencing June 19.
Discussion ensued on the future of hospital services in the county and the proposals to downgrade Withybush Hospital. In view of the geography of Pembrokeshire, places such as St. Davids, Dale and Angle would be more than 50 miles from Glangwili Hospital whereas Withybush Hospital is located in the centre of the county.
Single carriageway roads in and out of the county could result in a life or death situation for a patient en route to Glangwili Hospital in the event of a road being closed due to an accident. Industrialisation taking place around Milford Haven demands a fully equipped 24 hour Accident and Emergency Department being retained at Withybush Hospital.
Similarly, the increased population during the tourist season with accidents both on land and the sea require a 24-hour Accident and Emergency Department at Withybush. These views were to be conveyed to Ms Christine Gwyther AM and the Save Withybush Action Team.
No objection was raised to a planning application for alterations and extensions at Lanes End Farm, Cresselly.
