A new term has begun and the pupils of Orielton School, Hundleton, are raring to go. Every Wednesday, the children pull on their wellies and go exploring, using the natural environment to enhance their learning. Recent activities have included creating number lines in stones and shapes on Angle beach using raw materials, learning about habitats and food chains in the rock pools and storytelling in the woods.
"Pupils' descriptive language is enhanced and their physical, as well as their intellectual, development is encouraged in new directions as a result of learning outdoors," says Class 1 teacher Sarah James, who added: "After every session, it is not just the children who are alive with ideas; as a teacher I return amazed, thoughtful and already planning for the possibilities that may occur next time."
