IT's a small world', as they say, and this week another example of that old adage came to light... involving a member of our own staff.

For, while holidaying in Cyprus, a Tenby couple happened to see the Welsh ladies bowls team playing in the 2011 Atlantic Rim Games, with the Observer's very own Ceris Hewlings in action in the triples competition.

Charles and Mary Lou Clewett, of North Cliffe, were on holiday in Paphos with friends Nigel and Jenny Hall at the time and quite by chance saw Ceris playing.

But perhaps what makes this coincidence even more amazing is that, as a dressmaker, Mary Lou's business is situated in the same building as the Observer offices at Tindle House, Warren Street, and she normally works only a matter of yards away from chief reporter Ceris.

"It was quite a coincidence for us to be staying in the same hotel," said Mary Lou.

"We were fortunate to be on holiday near where the matches were played and viewed some of the early rounds when the Wales team got off to a good start," added Charles.
