Brothers Daniel (20) and Thomas Warrell (19), of Hakin, are set to trek the difficult 17,600ft to Mount Everest Base Camp which will take almost three weeks in aid of the Salsig Project in Romania and Pembrokeshire Care Society, incorporating Pembrokeshire Action for the Homeless. The boys, regulars at Broad Haven Baptist Church, wish to make their journey count towards projects that are specifically personal. The Salsig project, in conjunction with Broad Haven Baptist Church, is focused on building and equipping a new school, medical facility, community centre and church to serve the gypsy community of Salsig. Thomas has personally worked on this particular life-changing project and on an orphanage nearby. Daniel spent three weeks last year trekking through the jungle and up Mt Kinabalu in Borneo to raise awareness and sponsorship for SCOPE, the charity that works to help people affected by cerebral palsy. As a result of his efforts, he raised almost £3,000 for their work. The second charity is Pembrokeshire Care Society, incorporating Pembrokeshire Action for the Homeless. This was chosen in memory of a friend, Mark Homer, who tragically died last year. All monies raised will be used to purchase food, hygiene items, bedding, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery for the homeless. A donation of £10 will provide a food pack containing enough food for a week. Last year, over 800 local people approached the charity for advice and assistance. Dan and Tom will stop over in India en route to Kathmandu in Nepal, where their amazing but challenging trek to the foot of the tallest mountain on Earth will start.
