DESCRIBED 'as one of the most exciting and innovative performers in British music' - Jim Moray will be appearing at Narberth's Queen's Hall tomorrow (Saturday).
His music is rooted in traditional songs and ballads, but he brings a contemporary spirit that makes every song sound utterly fresh and new. His voice has an aching clarity and expressiveness, and his songwriting combines powerful emotional honesty with a sly irony, used to great effect on his recent multi-award-winning album 'Low Culture'.
In fact, Jim Moray has been showered with awards. At the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2004, he was presented with the Album of the Year Award for his first album 'Sweet England' and the Horizon Award for best newcomer.
He was also nominated twice in the Best Traditional Song category for 'Early One Morning' and 'Lord Bateman'.
Jim Moray's third album, 'Low Culture', which won the fRoots Critics Poll Album of the Year 2008 and was the Mojo Folk Album of the Year 2008, has also been nominated for the Album of the Year Award in the BBC Folk Awards 2009.
This will be a very special night at the Queen's Hall, as Jim will be supported by local star Lowri Evans.
Lowri's powerful yet delicate singing, the elegant restraint of her guitar playing, and her potent stage presence, make her one of the true gems of Welsh music.
The doors will be open at 7.30 pm and the event starts at 8 pm. Tickets are £11 or £10 for Span members or concessions, and are available from Span's website http://www.span-arts.org.uk">www.span-arts.org.uk or on 01834 869323.
