The annual general meeting of the Inner Wheel Club of Tenby was held at the Fourcroft Hotel on Monday, June 11. The District president Hannah Whatley was the guest speaker for the evening. President Carwen opened the meeting, introduced Hannah to the members and welcomed all present. The District president enrolled new member Rona Morgan to the club. This year, four new members in total have been enrolled, Jan Griffiths, Joyce Walker, Roma Morgan and Doreen Mortimer. On behalf of the club, Carwen wished Betty Ramsey's granddaughter a speedy recovery from her illness and she congratulated Sue Broomhead and Doreen Mortimer on their recent presentation to the Duke of Kent to receive a lifeboat retail award. Carwen reported on the Garden Party held at the National Botanical Garden organised by the Rotary Club. The business meeting continued and was followed with a talk by District president Hannah. Carwen presented Hannah with a cheque for her chosen charity, Kidney Research Wales. Her gift from the club was a plant in a pottery plant holder made by Boo Markes. Carwen also gave Hannah the first candle lit by herself at the Diamond Jubilee celebration dinner. After the coffee break, the annual general meeting continued with retiring officers badges being presented to Jean Peen and Margaret Peake. The executive officers' reports were presented to the club for their approval. Retiring president Carwen addressed the members. Her speech was very moving. She had been an excellent president during a very busy year. The members appreciate her dedication and enthusiasm shown in all the fund-raising and social events of this past year. Incoming president Meryl Sharpe received her badge of office from Carwen. Meryl then presented Carwen with her past president's badge. Meryl's chosen charities for the coming year will be the NSPCC and Ty Hafan. In her speech, Meryl announced that the handover dinner would take place at Swallow Tree on Monday, June 25, 7.30 for 8 pm. A visit to Ty Hafan and the Velindre Cancer Research Centre has been arranged for Sunday, June 24, when cheques will be presented by Carwen. The money has been raised during Carwen's term of office. The next meeting will be a walk and supper at the Overlander. Those members wishing to take part are requested to meet at the Fountains Cafe at 7 pm. Supper is arranged for 8.30.
