TWO men behind a restaurant in Tenby with a taste for producing recipes of the highest quality have made it as finalists in the 2017 National Burger Awards.

Indie Burger situated at the town’s Upper Frog Street, has been announced amongst the 16 finalists for the awards after hundreds of restaurants, pubs, bars, hotels and street food traders from around the UK submitted their signature recipes for the competition.

The entries were then judged and the selected 16 will now compete in the live final at the Islington Metal Works in London on February 22, where chefs will compete for four awards on the night, which will be decided by a team of distinguished judges.

The Signature Round will see chefs cook their own burger recipe with their own ingredients, followed by the Technical Round, where finalists will create a burger using a selection of ingredients supplied to them.

Finally, finalists will also be faced with the challenge of creating a burger from the Booker Mystery Box.

Tommy James and Josh Bevan first spoke about opening Indie Burger, way back in 2009, and last year realised their dream, after they’d perfected their recipes and burgers, knowing that they had created something delicious.

The NBA special burger they created to be nominated at the awards, features a 6oz patty using 100 per cent Welsh beef, homemade bacon, jam and BBQ sauce, Brooklyn lager braised onions, and NYC style cheddar.

“It’s pretty cool to be attending our first awards ceremony after only opening last year,” said Tommy.

The evening awards ceremony will be hosted by DJ BBQ, and the overall winner of the day will be announced and awarded a prize of £1,000.
