The Cardiff to Tenby charity cycle ride ‘Carten100’ returns tomorrow (Saturday, May 10).
While the main aim is to get people on their bikes without the pressure of it being a ‘race’ - a huge benefit of the event is the money riders raise for charity and worthy causes.
The start is from one of the most iconic Cardiff locations, Cardiff City Hall, with riders free to leave when ready, with be a rolling start from 7.30 am, which will take about an 90 minutes to complete, so no hurry.
Once again, this year for the event’s finish, Tenby High Street and Tudor Square, from the Crackwell Street junction to St Julian's Street will be closed to traffic from 12 noon to 8pm.
The alternative route for traffic will be via Crackwell Street which will be under traffic light control for the day.
Riders are expected to start hitting Tenby from around 1pm onwards.
With the ride finishing in the heart of the town, friends and families will be able to cheer riders in safely, before they all head down to the harbour to the Scott’s Finish Pavilion to collect their finishers T-shirt and complimentary meal, as well as a deserved refreshment at the longest bar in Tenby!
Access for vehicles will be under the direction of event marshals or the police. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout.
This event takes place on the open road, and riders must obey the Highway Code at all times. Please keep to the signposted route at all times.
The route avoids the high speed roads between Carmarthen and St. Clears (A40) and the Red Roses bypass (A477) - so please do not take these roads.
The ride is supported by the emergency support vans on the basis that riders maintain an average of 9mph (including for all stops) based on an 8.30am start. The finish will be closed by 8.30pm.
The ride will operate a ‘broom wagon’ system, where a support van will patrol the rear of the event and advise any riders unable to maintain the 9mph average that they will no longer be supported on the event.
