Sir,
I am disgusted as to how low we can go as businesses of Tenby. Are we this desperate for trade? I am a local business person of all-year-round trade myself; I am not a fuddy duddy, just a very concerned parent.
When my children and others are subjected to what has happened at tea-time for the last three Saturdays, I think it is time to say enough is enough.
The two Saturdays previous, when my three youngest children and I left Ocean Commotion, we had to pass brawling in the street, as well as listen to bad language being shouted aloud. All of this due to - and I think everyone knows - stags, hens and large groups of adult parties.
Last Saturday was the final straw. We took a different route home up the Parade, thinking there would be no hassle, but we were wrong. My attention was drawn when my six-year-old daughter, her friend and two-and-a-half-year-old son, said: 'Look, mummy there's a man having a wee on that bin, look!". He was there for everyone to see, not just us, and there were others about.
What must they have thought, particularly if they were visitors to our town. I was so annoyed!
I did approach and say something to this man, only to have verbal abuse thrown back at me. He could hardly stand due to being intoxicated, stupid with drink, yet he could soon find his feet to follow myself and the children back to our shop - as you can imagine, he did not step over my business doorway.
I know the first thing most people will say: Where are the police when you need them? But this is not their fault. This is ours, as business people, from the accommodation we provide, down to myself even serving them with sweets; it should be down to us all to stop this.
Finally, I close with this: Is this the future we want for Tenby, for our children to be kept indoors on weekends just so we can accommodate this kind of behaviour?
Do we want Tenby to be classed as a place to come where you can see and hear brawling/swearing and also urinating in our streets?
Is this what we can call a holiday town for families and couples to come to and enjoy? I think not!
Mrs. Marilyn Gardner,
The Jazz Sweetshop,
Tenby.
