Sir,
My congratulations to your paper for its coverage in last week's edition of the ongoing question of the council's intention to re-site its recycling unit from its present situation at Tenby to land adjacent to Brooklands. At every turn I hear people discussing this iniquitous proposal, but what lies behind this plan? Is it a case of not in my backyard or do I catch the whiff of a smell of money?
Why were applications turned down when they would have been more appropriate than this one which will forever be called - the rubbish dump.
There are so many factors against this plan, such as the inevitable use of yet more heavy traffic on an already busy road being an accident waiting to happen, but the biggest one is to the deprivation of the home's residents of the only place they can use for peace and quiet and the sun on their backs. They lack for nothing in the way of care, and yes love, and I say this from first-hand experience. My husband spent his last years there - the wonderful kindness given to him and also to myself could not have been surpassed anywhere.
The council's idea of landscaping does little to address the noise and inconvenience which will inevitably result from the obviously increased volume of heavy lorries coming and going to the site.
When the last days are inevitably coming, would we deny these poor people the peace and quiet they deserve, many having served their country with distinction.
To the people who quietly agree this plan is a disgrace, please voice your disapproval more vocally and prevent the council carrying out this ill-thought out scheme.
Betty Inskip,
