2010 is turning out to be a very good year for one local gymnast.

Sixteen-year-old Victoria Walters, a pupil of Greenhill School in Tenby, attended The Vale Hotel in Cardiff last Saturday, for the national awards for Welsh gymnasts 2010, where she was awarded with the honour of being named Welsh Female Disability Gymnast of the Year 2010.

This was in recognition of Victoria's achievements this year, which started with her representing Great Britain in Luxembourg in May where she gained a gold medal for the floor, making her European champion, and two bronze medals.

Victoria followed that up in October attending the GMPD Championships in Poole, Dorset, where she won gold again on the floor, making her British champion.

Saturday's occasion was made particularly special for Victoria as she also met a number of the Welsh rugby team following their match with South Africa and also Francesca Jones, Welsh silver medalist in rhythmic gymnastics from the recent Commonwealth Games in India.

Victoria attends the Pembrokeshire special needs gymnastics club each week and also trains in Cardiff once a month with the Welsh special needs Olympic coaches.
