Sir,

We would like to add a few comments to the letter in last week's Observer from a lady in St. David's Close, concerning the parking problems in Heywood Lane and surrounding area.

Although not mentioned, Heywood Court also suffers illegal parking in residents' zones and across dropped kerbs, making it difficult for the disabled to cross safely.

Five years ago, a local resident tried very hard to improve the situation with a petition of over 200 signatures for the safety of our children walking to school, and meetings with the Town Council and Mrs. Gwther resulted in a slight improvement at the time.

Now, however, a lot more thought is needed. Although more school buses may be an answer, parking them would be a real problem, as land nearby the school does not seem an available option and Greenhill School already has 15 buses struggling to park twice a day.

You also have the students that have just passed their test, understandably preferring to drive than use the bus!

Residents in Heywood Court also have added problems with the bus shelter. OAP's especially, feel somewhat intimidated at times and stand on the pavement waiting for buses rather than the shelter, as it is used on a daily basis as a meeting place for students, where some shout, scream, swear, smoke and spit. Roof tiles have been vandalized, birds nests also, and litter is left for days.

We appreciate how much teenagers need to meet up in private for whatever reason, but it would be so nice if the new funding available this year could include the provision of a proper shelter and perhaps more parking facilities for everyone concerned.

Heywood Court Residents.
