Would you pay a million pounds for your deliverance? At the service on Sunday, Rev. Peter Richmond talked about a man who had a skin disease and was willing to pay the equivalent of a million pounds today to be healed. The man was Na'aman. When he heard from his servant that there was an Israelite prophet who could heal him, he packed gold, silver and fine clothes and journeyed to see the prophet Elisha. The man of God simply sent a message: "go and bathe seven times in the Jordan river." It seemed like an insult to Na'aman. There were rivers in his own country far cleaner than the Jordan - yet he came to realise that if the prophet had asked him to do something difficult he would have done it readily. Swallowing his pride, he bathed seven times in the river and then his body was restored to the perfection of a child's skin. Valuable gifts were of no interest to Elisha, but they were an important symbol of how much it mattered to Na'aman to be healed. His healing left him in no doubt that the God of Israel was the only true God. The pastor taught from the example of Na'aman that when people expect deliverance from God they should be willing to give anything they have, and humble enough to accept His methods, which are sometimes unexpected. Hesed services are held every Sunday afternoon at 4.15 in Carringtons Restaurant, below the Atlantic Hotel on Tenby's Esplanade.
