A HAVERFORDWEST optician is in the running for a UK award, after being named Wales’ Optometrist of the Year last year.

Andy Britton, ophthalmic director at Specsavers Haverfordwest, has been shortlisted for Optometrist of the Year at the Optician Awards 2026, with the winners set to be announced in London this December.

The recognition follows Mr Britton’s win at the 2025 Optometry Wales Awards, where his clinical expertise and contribution to the profession were celebrated. Now, he is among optometrists from across the UK shortlisted for the national title.

Mr Britton said: “Winning the award in Wales last year was a real highlight, so to be shortlisted nationally this time around is an incredible honour.

“I’ve been part of the Haverfordwest store for more than 20 years and it’s been great to see how much we’ve developed in that time. For me, it’s always been about making sure people across Pembrokeshire can access the eye care they need close to home.”

The recognition extends beyond Mr Britton, with Specsavers Haverfordwest also shortlisted for Technology Practice of the Year and the Enhanced Optical Service Award. The store has grown significantly under his and retail director Wayne Jones’ leadership, expanding from four test rooms to 14 at its £1.2 million premises at Riverside Quay.

The team uses advanced clinical technology and offers enhanced services, including glaucoma monitoring, helping people across Pembrokeshire access specialist eye care locally.

Mr Jones added: ”There’s a huge amount of dedication behind the scenes to keep improving what we do and everyone plays a part in that. Being the only Specsavers store in Wales to make this year’s shortlist makes it particularly special and I hope the team feels proud of what they’ve achieved.”

The results will be revealed at the Optician Awards 2026 ceremony in London on December 11.
