The Saundersfoot, Tenby and District Committee of Macmillan Cancer Relief cooked Welsh cakes and sold books and bric a brac on Saundersfoot Harbour from 9.30 am until 5 pm on Tuesday, July 31. Several committee members worked all day and, thanks to large crowds brought out by the sunshine, a record amount was raised from this annual event. The money will go to Macmillan's South West Wales appeal which funds additional cancer services in this area. The appeal has already funded a gynaecology clinical nurse specialist, two GP facilitators and a local health board palliative care co-ordinator. The appeal now needs a further £1,321,000 to help fund other vital professional roles and services which will help patients deal with their diagnoses and to live their lives. The planned posts are a palliative care nurse at Withybush Hospital, an information radiographer in Swansea, a speech and language therapist in Swansea, a social worker in Carmarthenshire, benefits advisers in both Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, a lymphodema clinical nurse specialist in Swansea, who will also work in local leisure centres, and a Pembrokeshire Nursing Home Project in which nursing homes personnel will be educated about 'the last days of life pathway'.
