The Rotary Club of Tenby organised last Sunday's 'Harbour Spectacular' and despite a slow start and some light rain, it was another resounding success.

The event was officially opened by Tenby's Deputy Mayor, Clr. Caroline Thomas, who arrived at the harbour accompanied by mace bearers Robin Scanlon and John Morgan in the horse-drawn cart.

They were joined by Newbury family Glyn Evans and Sian Williams, plus their daughters Arianwen and Rhiannon, who were the winners of the Rotary quiz in last week's Tenby Observer.

The wonderful Seren Irish Dancers were the first of the afternoon and the youngsters' performance was as polished as it had been a fortnight previously.

Sea shanty singers, the Vegrants Crew, again pleased the crowd with a selection of well known ballads, before singer-guitarist Nick Thomas provided a pleasant mix of songs.

Next on stage were The Greenhill Jazz Band, school children aged 13 and 18, plus their music teacher Paul Rapi, who proved their much appreciated instrumental talents.

The evening's tempo and noise levels moved up a notch or two when the Gary Gary Band took the stage. It was sadly lead singer Gary Howells's last gig at Tenby harbour as he is emigrating to Australia with his family. The audience loved the variety of rock and roll numbers performed by Tenby's favourite group.

Pembrokeshire's premier soul band, the 12-strong Horizontal Favours, completed the day's fabulous entertainment. It was the first occasion that they had played at Tenby harbour and they enjoyed it as much as the capacity audience. The harbour bounced throughout their magnificent show.

As has now been traditional for some years, the event culminated with another stunning fireworks display from the end of the pier. The majority of visitors had never before witnessed such a colourful visual show.

Members of Tenby Rotary Club ran the burger van and bar, whilst the ladies of Inner Wheel sold their Welsh cakes. The various charity stalls and children's attractions were also all pleased with their takings.

The Rotary Club wishes to thank all the bands and entertainers who have performed at its two summer events this year. The club is also extremely grateful for the support it receives from holidaymakers and locals who regularly attend the 'Harbour Spectaculars'. Together with other fundraising events, they enable the Rotary Club to make considerable donations to numerous local, national and international charities each year.
