Handrail concern

Sir,

Since last summer the second-but-last section of handrailing as one descends the path to the South Beach has been loose, i.e. one end out of its socket. Although I'm a fairly agile person of middle years, I almost had an accident using it last year, whereupon I realised the problem.

Had I not been preoccupied with more pressing matters, I might have alerted the town or county councils sooner and to be honest, whenever I do use the path down to South Beach I'm surprised to note that nothing has been done about this matter of disrepair.

I'm therefore hoping to attract the attention of whoever is the appropriate body via your Letters Page to this problem: does whichever council is responsible realise that it would be liable if someone were to suffer an accident involving the said rail? I'm thinking particularly of out-of-season and early season coach parties of elderly visitors, not to mention families with young children.

Tenby hardly wants to add legal damages cases to its already-tarnished reputation caused by hen and stag night rampages and other unseemly behaviour, I presume?

By my reckoning the rail has been loose and one end out of its socket for at least six months.

Anne-Ruth Alton (Miss),

Victoria Street,

Tenby.
