This half term Tenby Museum and Art Gallery is participating in the Welsh Museums Festival, and will be hosting a series of family events.
Starting on Halloween Tuesday (October 31), the festivities will kick off with Welsh Halloween! / Nos Galan Gaeaf!
This spooktacular day will be led by Events & Education Officer Glyn Harries, who will be engaging families in storytelling from Welsh and Celtic lore. There will also be the chance to take part in craft making activities, supervised by some of the museum’s volunteers.
Glyn advises that his activity day will run between 11am and 3pm, with participants able to dip in and out.
Admission to this event is free with standard entry, and no pre-booking is required.
On Thursday 2nd November there will be an opportunity to take part in a mythology-based storytelling workshop.
This will be offered by Cuban Welsh storyteller Raul Speek, who will be focusing on the myths and legends of Merlin.
This workshop will be two hours in duration, and there will be the option of either a morning or afternoon session. Booking will be essential for Raul’s workshop. To do so, please call the Museum on 01834 842809, or visit their website to book via Eventbrite.
On Saturday 4th November, Tenby photographer Alun Crockford will be hosting a traditional photographic workshop. This ties in with Alun’s current exhibition at the Museum, Made in Tenby, which includes over 120 portraits of local people, taken in traditional black and white style. This workshop will be suitable for older children, aged 12-16, and will include the experience of negatives and a mini dark room. Spaces are very limited for this two hour morning session, priced at £15.00.
Please contact the Museum directly, or book via Eventbrite on their website to secure your place.
Throughout the week there will be several spooky trails to follow.
Finally on the afternoon of Saturday 4th November, Alun will be offering members of the public the chance to have their own portrait taken. There will be a £10 charge for this, and it is recommended that you call the Museum to reserve a place.
Coming up later in November, there will be a valuation day with Nigel Francis in the Museum Library on Thursday 16th November, and a talk on the Castlemartin Range by Vicky Tomlinson on the evening of Thursday 23rd November. Bookings for the talk can by taken over the phone, or through our website via Eventbrite.
The Museum will also be hosting a Christmas Fair on Saturday 25th November. More details of the Valuation Day and the Christmas Fair will be advertised shortly on the museum's website.
