The Rainbows in Saundersfoot are desperately looking for new leaders to run the group beginning in September. Already one Brownie parent has stepped forward and is willing to help, but other team members are needed to make this a possibility. "Over the last few years, the face of Girlguiding has changed and has acquired a more modern outlook," said Helen Perrett, Lower Landsker District Commissioner. "We are looking forward to our centenary in 2010 and would like as many girls as possible to be part of it."
FLEXIBLE GUIDING In today's society it is important that Guiding takes a flexible approach to meetings. It may not be possible to commit time every week, because of health, location, personal and professional commitments, but you may be able to lead a unit once a fortnight and that's fine. What's in it for you? Many of the skills developed in Guiding, both as a young member and an adult leader, stay with an individual throughout her life and are transferable to other situations, such as work. Many employers seek a range of skills and attributes in prospective employees that are already developed through Guiding. Guiding provides many opportunities for its leaders, such as: friendship, using and developing skills, challenges, learning by doing, teamwork and leadership, personal development, international involvement and practical skills. Guiding gives you many experiences and skills, as well as helping you identify and improve those you already have. Guiding can help you develop your self-confidence and ability to show that you care about others, and that you can play an active role in the community. It may be that you were once a Rainbow or Brownie or Guide and now have some time to 'give back' as an adult member. "Our leaders in Lower Landsker District come from all walks of life and our ages vary from 16 through to 60," said Helen. "We enjoy giving our youngsters lots of different opportunities. Some of our Brownies recently took part in a nationwide record- breaking sleepover. Guides in Tenby and Saundersfoot have enjoyed camping, even in the rain. Brownies in Tenby enjoyed a 'behind the scenes' visit to the local chip shop and were treated to fish and chips! "The Brownies in Saundersfoot are looking forward to their Pack Holiday in September and later this month a coach is taking Rainbows and Brownies to the Welsh Headquarters in Llandinam for a Pirate Adventure Day. Not to be left out, one of our local leaders is going to Switzerland next year with the Guides and Rangers of Pembroke Dock. "Why not come and be part of this exciting organisation? If you are able to help us to save the Rainbows in Saundersfoot please give me a call on 01646 682777."
