There's been a real buzz around Tenby's Greenhill School this week as the creative arts department stage an energetic production of the hit musical 'Jesus Christ Superstar'.

And what better time to stage the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice religious themed rock opera with Easter only just over a month away.

Featuring a powerful accompaniment from the school's Symphony Orchestra, directors Paul Rapi and husband and wife duo, Andrew and Julia Rees, have brought out the best in the 80-plus cast, who have left their sell-out audiences rocking in the aisles.

Packed full of rapid mood changes and hit songs like 'Everything's Alight', 'What's the Buzz' and 'Superstar', the cast proved they are indeed superstars in the making themselves as they have risen to the mighty challenges of the greatest story ever told with an electric two hours of singing and dancing that would not be out of place on a West End stage.

Through the use of simple yet effective set design, clever lighting and a blend of modern and traditional costumes, the slick production tells the tale of Jesus of Nazareth as seen through the eyes of his disciple, Judas Iscariot.

From his triumphant entry into Jerusalem to his brutal crucifixion, the musical, which takes in all the events of the last seven days in Jesus' life - from the Last Supper, his arrest and trial, including a spectacular portrayal of the 39 lashes, to Peter's denial and Judas's death - is an emotional roller-coaster from beginning to end.

Yes, Mary's solo, 'I don't know how to love him', brought tears to my eyes, my foot was tapping along to the words of 'Superstar' and I smiled at King Herod's dancing with the Charleston dancers.

Awe-inspiring in the title role of Jesus is Matthew Birch, while Miranda Rees, no stranger to centre stage, hits all the right notes as Mary.

Revelling in the role of the Judas, the betrayer, Ian Underhill blasted onto stage with confidence, and like Matthew and Miranda, sang and acted superbly, showing talent and professionalism well beyond their years.

They were ably supported by Richard Kiess, Sam Harman and Rhys Bromby, as Pilate, Peter and Simon, respectively, while Andrew Birch stars as Herod.

And not to be outdone by the students, there were appearances, too, from staff members, John Morgan (Chiaphas), Calvin Williams (Annas) and Terry Evans and Mike Jones (Phaarisees).
