Children from Tenby's Junior Light Seekers Sunday Club, joined Tearfund this week in praying for a group of Quechua people, in Deer Park Baptist Church's 'Glorious Food' Harvest Celebration. This year, Christian relief and development agency, Tearfund, produced a harvest action pack, featuring an indigenous group of people referred to as 'Quechua'. The Quechua people live high up in the Bolivian Andes. Due to a poor diet and a lack of healthy food, many Quechua people suffer from malnutrition. Malnutrition is caused by a lack of proper nutrition and by not eating enough of the right food combinations. Before Tearfund got involved, the staple diet of many Quechua families was potato and wheat. Tearfund have joined with local people in a project called Yanapanakuna, which means 'Let us help ourselves'. Tearfund's project enables local people to grow a variety of fruit and vegetables by providing and building greenhouses. The Quechua families work together growing vegetables and share out the produce with their neighbours. "In our Sunday Club, the children have been learning about a little boy called Samuel who lives in Bolivian Andes," said club leader Sharron Hardwick. "His mum and dad have struggled to provide healthy food for their children. Now, thanks to the work of Tearfund partner Yanapanakuna, the family can grow all kinds of fruit and vegetables in their new greenhouse. We have learned that God wants us to share what we have with those in need." As a response to their learning, the children each wrote a prayer. In their prayers the children thanked God for his provision of food, and asked Him to help us to share all we have with those in need. They also prayed for the Quechua people and the work of Tearfund. As part of Deer Park's PC60 (parents and children 60 minutes) service, the children shared their prayers on Sunday morning and sang 'Think of a world without any flowers', accompanied by Kevin Adams on the guitar.
