A local councillor wants to ensure that 'crafts and produce' are the main focus of a Christmas market held in Tenby.
Speaking at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane said that she had seen letters circulated around the town from the Tenby Chamber of Trade and Tourism (organisers of the Christmas markets) asking for local businesses to get involved in the event.
"Local shops don't come under the banner of 'crafts and produce' which is what I thought the markets were supposed to promote," said Clr. Mrs. Lane.
"I'm just frightened that there might be a traders' war. We've always supported the markets on the basis that it is crafts and produce that are promoted, so I want to make sure that that's what we are supporting," she added.
Clr. Mike Evans said the markets were there to bring quality into the town and not quantity.
"It's not about competition, the idea from the Chamber of Trade is definitely not to shoot their own members in the foot," he explained, adding that he would take the issue to the Chamber of Trade, as Clr. Mrs. Lane said that perhaps the letters being circulated were just badly worded.
