Only three matches were played on Saturday in the James Williams Pembrokeshire Association Football League. Most of Pembrokeshire's football grounds were covered under a white blanket of snow, but clearance work in the morning enabled play to take place at Carew, Saundersfoot and Tenby.
DIVISION ONE
Carew 2
Goodwick United 3
Kick-off was delayed until 3 pm and play was only possible following the work done on the pitch in the morning by Gerald Hicks.
An own goal by Neil Morgan after 15 minutes resulted in the visitors taking the lead, although there was a strong body of opinion in the Carew camp that the goal should have been disallowed as a Goodwick player was offside.
Ten minutes before the interval, Carew equalised when Carl Wainwright followed up a cross from Paul Bullock to Richard Bullock and Wainwright was on hand to pick up the deflection.
Although Goodwick started the first half strongly, Carew came back in the closing stages and there was little to choose between the two teams.
Carew came out with all guns blazing at the start of the second half and pressurised the Goodwick defence relentlessly in the initial stages.
Although a number of corners were awarded to Carew, the Carew players were unable to convert pressure into goals.
Gradually the visitors got back into the match and a header by Daniel Williams edged the Goodwick team in front. However, Carew were undaunted and forced themselves back into the game and appeared to have secured a point with five minutes of the match remaining.
The move started with a strong header by Nick Scourfield which was headed on by James Buckle across the goal and Carl Wainwright picked up his second goal of the match when he lobbed the Goodwick 'keeper.
Unfortunately for Carew, the visitors had the last word with a goal from 20 yards when Martin Griffiths hit a half-volley into the back of the net.
It was a good all-round team performance by the Carew players. James Buckle was outstanding and Carl Wainwright also had a very good game.
Saundersfoot Sports 1 Monkton Swifts 6
Despite the eventual scoreline, Saundersfoot started briskly and a number of chances were created for twin strikers Steve Davies and Jason Bridges.
Unfortunately for the Saundersfoot players, they found that one of their former team-mates, Craig Reardon, was in tip-top form playing in goal for the Swifts.
Leading Division One scorer Mathew Price scored twice, supplemented by a goal from Dean Driscoll to give the visitors a three goals advantage at half-time.
Steve Davies clawed one goal back for Saundersfoot after seven minutes with a header to the back post from a free-kick by Simon Brace.
Just when Saundersfoot appeared to be establishing a foothold in the match, they were reduced to 10 players when Russell Evans received his marching orders following a disputed decision.
With only 10 players, Jason Bridges became the solitary striker up front as Steve Davies moved back into midfield, but with the reshuffle Saundersfoot found it harder to defend.
Mathew Price completed an excellent hat-trick when after beating three defenders, Dean Driscoll picked up his second goal of the match and a goal from Dean Busby completed the scoring for the afternoon.
The Swifts prospered by playing neat football from the middle of the park.
For Suandersfoot, Peter Rattenbury pulled off some good saves in goal and Steve Davies continued his remarkable run and has scored a goal in each of the last seven matches.
Tenby 0
Hakin United 1
In an excellent game, Tenby gave second placed Hakin United a real run for their money.
Although the Vikings had the better of the first half, Tenby were in the game and the visitors were prevented from scoring until 10 minutes before half-time.
In a three-man race for a bouncing ball, Hakin's Paul Jones got there just before Tenby 'keeper Ben Evans to put the visitors in front.
Tenby had the edge in the second half, but were unable to create any clear cut scoring opportunities in the early stages.
In the closing stages, player-manager Gavin Scotcher and David Day came on as substitutes and Scotcher came close to scoring.
With five minutes remaining, Tenby appeared to equalise. A header from Anthony Griffiths seemed to deceive the Hakin 'keeper and David Day headed the ball into the back of the net for good measure.
Unfortunately, the goal was disallowed as Day was judged to be offside.
Everybody played their part in a top quality team performance and Tenby were unlucky not to have at least a share of the spoils.
Ben Evans had a solid game in goal and David Meyrick was steady at the back.
