A "really pleasurable day" had been enjoyed in Tenby last week during the visit of the Swedish folk dancers from Gotland, members of the town council agreed on Tuesday.

"They were a great credit to their country and enjoyed entertaining people in the town," said Clr. Trevor Hallett. "They were really, really good.

"As members of the Walled Towns Friendship Circle, they are also going to try and keep in contact with us," he added, suggesting that the council should send them a letter of thanks.

The Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas, assured him that this had already been done.

A letter, meanwhile, was also received from Mr. David Rye, of Milford Haven, on behalf of the dancers and Dawnswyr Llanarthney (the Welsh folk dance group that hosted them), thanking the council for allowing the use of the De Valence Pavilion.

This was invaluable, "as not only did it make a great place to hold a teaching workshop for the folk dancers, but being able to use it as a base for the rest of the day was wonderful and contributed much to the success of the whole visit," said Mr. Rye.

"Tenby is a wonderful town and I know how much the Swedish dancers enjoyed their brief visit - I am sure that some of them will choose to come back again as 'tourists', to re-visit a place that welcomed them as friends."

There was also a 'bouquet' from Mr. Rye for the Tenby Observer.

"I would like to thank your local 'paper for getting the dancers (and your Mayor) onto the front page so quickly," he said. "The dancers were very impressed by the fact that their procession through the town could take place on the Thursday, and be featured in the local paper the following day!"
