Sir.
Tenby branch of the Royal Air Forces Association would like to thank the five members who collected on Saturday, June 12, as part of Alexandra Rose Day. The total sum of £185,76 was raised, £130 of which was donated to the RAFA Wings Appeal Fund. Thanks are also due to Somerfield Store who permitted collecting on their forecourt and this mainly contributed towards the total.
It is unfortunate that many of the general public today do not realise that Alexandra Rose Day is the oldest Flag Day in the country, having been founded in 1912 by Queen Alexandra. It is a National Flag Day, and many seemed to be very surprised when their question 'What's it for?' was answered with the full details by the organiser.
This much loved charity continues today, as it began, to make it possible for voluntary organisations caring for the aged, the young, the sick and the disabled, to raise funds for themselves, by taking part in the Alexandra Rose Day, keeping at least 70 per cent of the money they raise for their own cause. It is granted a street collection by county councils throughout the UK.
Through your 'paper may we thank those of the generous public who helped to fill our tins.
John King,
Secretary and Treasurer,
Tenby branch RAFA.
