Sir, Following the formation of an Action Group against the Tetra mast at Gumfreston, a meeting was held by St. Florence Community Council to discuss this issue. The council is in full support of the fight against such a mast being erected. As yet, however, the application has not been discussed by the planning committee and continued support is needed in order to ensure that this mast is not given the go-ahead. Petitions are still on-going in and around Tenby. Do we want this blot on the landscape and will our holidaymakers want it? The Action Group wishes to make it clear that Tenby is not dealing with a 'run of the mill' mobile phone mast. There will be no benefit whatsoever to mobile phone users (these masts are for police communication only) and, while mobile phone masts carry their own element of danger, Tetra masts are considered to carry risks to health that are far, far greater. If you are concerned about the fact that the mast's main beam will be pointing almost directly at three of the town's schools (and within one mile of them), then please contact the governing body of your child's school. In particular, ask for the governor with responsibility for 'Health and Safety'. 02 should have consulted with the schools before applying for planning permission and in many other communities, where similar battles have been fought. If you have concerns about the health of the children in Tenby, but lack information about these Tetra masts, then log on to http://www.mastsanity.org">www.mastsanity.org Or alternatively, telephone (01834) 843746 (evenings). This is not just a Gumfreston problem, but also a problem for all those in close proximity to any of these masts. Law-abiding people across the country are fighting against this invasion on our lives. Tenby must fight this too, now, before it is too late.
Gordon Ellis, Chairman, Gumfreston Against The Tetra Mast Group,
Blackwood House, Gumfreston.
