April 1, 1966: Nearly 500 Tenby teenagers petitioned the ‘Weekly Observer’ complaining of the lack of entertainment facilities in the town. They said they had to travel to Saundersfoot, Pembroke or Narberth even to dance.
Election results: Pembrokeshire - D. Donnelly (Lab) 23,852, F. Fisher (Con) 17,921; O. G. Williams (Lib) 5,308; J. Sheppard (Plaid) 2,460.
Miss Betty Thomas, of Croesgoch, was selected Rally Queen of the Pembrokeshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs. Her attendants were Miss Mary Llewellyn, New Moat; Miss Carole Lowe (Tenby); Miss Margaret Prout (Pembroke); Miss Shirley Morris (Hebron).
St. Mary’s Church Youth Club members Sally Rolfe, Linda Hine, Andrea Marquiss and Megan Morse were winners of the public speaking competition sponsored by Tenby Rotary Club.
Tenby Golf Club - the oldest in Wales - had the most modern clubhouse in the country. Built and equipped at a cost of nearly £40,000, the new building was formally opened at a ceremony by Mrs. Joanne Haig and her brother, Mr. Byam Mathias Thomas.
Pembrokeshire’s first council estate incorporating under-floor heating - a new concept in home heating - was officially declared open with an informal ceremony at Narberth Rural Council’s garden cottage site in Saundersfoot.
