A special meeting of the Association of Residents and Friends of Amroth was held at the Cartwheel Restaurant in Amroth (by kind permission of Mr. R. J. Simpson) to discuss the winding up of the association.

The association was formed in February 1970 and thanks should be given to the committee and members who worked tirelessly to maintain the objectives of the as laid down in the constitution, for example: 'The encouragement of the preservation, development and improvement of the features which make pleasing and convenient conditions in which to live, work and enjoy holidays'. Few life members remain, but all members, where possible, have been contacted and it was decided that, as the local community council have now, very efficiently, taken on the responsibility of monitoring and generally following through any problems relating to the parish, that the association was no longer relevant. All members agreed that, because it would benefit the whole community, it would be appropriate to pass the balance of the money available, £512.95, to the fund for rebuilding the Parish Hall in Summerhill, and a letter of thanks has been received from the secretary, Mrs. Maureen North. Mrs. Eileen Algate had many fond memories to tell of Amroth.

In particular, she recalled how many of the places had come by their present names; quite often, it seems, being named after the owner or occupant of many years ago.

Thanks were given to Mr. Simpson for his usual generous hospitality and everyone then bade farewell to a small slice of local history.
