'WINGS and Wales in Watercolour' is the title of an exhibition of watercolours and prints by Tenby artist Harry Gardiner which focuses on the twin themes of birds and landscape, literally so in the case of the birds as a quarter of all sales will be donated to the Tinkers Hill Bird of Prey and Swan Rescue Centre at Amroth.
Harry's most recent paintings are of birds of West Wales - puffins, gannets and red kites. The elegance and poise of swans has been a favourite subject of Harry's for several years, shown in the exhibition in a variety of sizes and styles of paintings and prints, from large portraits of swans preening, down to postage stamp size miniatures.
Born and brought up by the flat spaces of the Fens, the contrast of the Welsh landscape drew Harry again and again. He moved to Tenby three years ago and married here. His watercolour landcapes include coastal scenes in and around Tenby, as well as scenes in Mid Wales and the mountains of North Wales.
The exhibition runs from June 16 to 28 in the small gallery at Colby Lodge, Amroth.
Last year, Maria Evans at the Tinkers Hill Sanctuary rescued and rehabilitated 174 swans. She currently has 20 swans in residence, including a number of oiled swans rescued from Port Talbot.
The National Trust at Colby is pleased to be supporting Tinkers Hill Bird of Prey and Swan Rescue Centre, which on several occasions has been instrumental in rescuing birds found in distress in the Colby woodlands.
A 'two for the price of one' admission to the gardens is offered on presentation of this article and for further inquiries please contact Colby on (01834) 814200.
