Sir, After reading the many articles on pedestrianisation and the parking scheme in Tenby town, I must say that it is a problem that must be addressed. I am in favour of the pedestrianisation, I think it's good for all; it makes the town a relaxed and beautiful place to be, though I do think the restrictions are a bit harsh for all concerned and must be looked at in depth. My point in writing this letter is: am I the only Tenby resident who drives a car who is fed up that every summer when the pedestrianisation is in place that there is nowhere to park, only the multi- storey car park (if your lucky), because every street outside the town walls is taken up with at least two-thirds of permit holders. In my opinion, this does not do the pedestrianisation scheme any favours as holidaymakers, Tenby residents and work men and women have nowhere to park because of the sheer volume of holidaymakers flocking to the town. So I think, if all the streets outside the town walls were free for all, more and more people would be in favour of the pedestrianisation, as myself and many other drivers pay our road tax and we should have a right to park where we want outside the town walls, as long as we are not illegally parked or causing an obstruction, instead of the privileged few obtaining a parking permit so they can park outside their homes. If we all lived in the town centre, I appreciate we would want a permit to park outside our homes, but as the volume of traffic is increasing every year and with the pedestrianisation it is impossible in the summer months to get a parking space, I think that the parking scheme is grossly unfair and should be abolished as Clr. Lane mentioned. And, after reading last week's edition of the Observer, Angela Nicholls, of 18 Clareston Road, Tenby, wrote: as for workers, they should use the multi-storey car park. Anyone who uses that car park or any other car park knows how congested they get in the summer. Myself and my partner only last summer remember a lady trying to reserve a parking space in the multi-storey for a friend/ relative. She was standing with her arms open wide in a parking bay and another car was trying to run her down as the driver was shouting abuse and saying you cannot do that. That just shows in my opinion how congested the multi-storey and the surrounding car parks get in the summer months. We don't expect free daily parking, we just want a parking space and are all fully prepared to pay for it, and as for using the park and ride service, why should we have to park half-a-mile to a mile out of town, then jump on a bus to the town centre, then jump on the bus back to the car park, when if there was no parking scheme (permit holders) we would have more chance of parking closer to town. We don't see the many residents who in the streets where the parking scheme operates having for example to park their cars on Butts Field, then have to jump on a bus back to the town centre to where they live. So like I mentioned, make all the surrounding streets outside the town walls on a first come first served basis and scrap the parking scheme. After all, we are all road tax payers. I do appreciate that they have to pay the council for permits, but that's not the issue, it is so unfair to all the other road users. I just want equality for all other road users and that's my point.
