The latest concert from Tenby Jazz at The Clarence House Hotel featured Afternoon in Paris, whose musical journey around the world entranced the audience, further enraptured by Susanna Warren’s bass clarinet and its awesome low notes.
Jeremy Young’s Django-like guitar work always astonishes and was well supported by Alan Vaughan’s reliable double bass (albeit a futuristic looking version) and the inimical Paul Smith on drums.
From Parisian nightclubs to Balkan cafes to Argentinian concert halls, the band’s wide, yet eclectic range demanded full respect from a hooked audience.
The next jazz lunch is on June 22 at The Clarence, featurin another Tenby favourite - the New Orleans Hot Potatoes.
The imperious Dave Jones Quartet appear in July and James Chadwick’s Trio, Inside Out, come in August.
