SIXTY years to the day since the Aberfan disaster, Vision Theatre Company will open its production of Neil Anthony Docking’s The Revlon Girl at Milford Haven’s Boulevard Theatre, with a special commemorative gala on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

On October 21, 1966, a colliery spoil tip collapsed above the Welsh village of Aberfan, killing 116 children and 28 adults. Six decades on, the Milford Haven performance will offer audiences a moment to reflect on the lives lost and the enduring impact of the disaster on families and the wider community.

The gala evening will begin with a reception at 6.45pm, followed by the performance at 7.30pm. A minute’s silence will be observed in remembrance of those who died.

Set eight months after the disaster, The Revlon Girl centres on a group of bereaved mothers who gather above a local hotel to talk, cry and, at times, laugh together. Hoping to reclaim a small part of ordinary life, they secretly invite a representative from cosmetics company Revlon to offer beauty advice. What follows is an intimate, deeply human portrayal of friendship, grief, guilt and resilience, with moments of humour alongside profound loss.

Rather than recreating the disaster, the play gives space to the women living with its aftermath. It asks how people find moments of connection and hope when life has been irrevocably changed. The production invites audiences from across Pembrokeshire and beyond to share in an evening of theatre and remembrance.

Drew Baker, Creative Director of Vision Theatre Company, has described the commemoration as “an opportunity to remember them, to honour their families, and to recognise the community whose lives were forever changed”.

The production continues at Boulevard Theatre until Saturday, October 24, giving audiences unable to attend the anniversary gala further opportunities to experience the play.
